Civil Services Examination (CSE)

The Entire process is divided in 3 Parts

1. Preliminary examination 2. Mains examination 3. Interview (Personality Test)

Preliminary examination

– The preliminary examination aims at judging the abilities and aptitude of candidates.

– There will be negative marking for incorrect answers. Decision making section does not have negative marking.

– On the basis of the marks obtained by the candidates in the Preliminary Examination, the candidates will be declared qualified for admission to the Main Examination.

– But the marks obtained in preliminary examination, will not be counted for determining their final order of merit. Thus these 2 papers will be qualifying in nature.

– Consists of two objective types’ papers (multiple choice questions) and carrying 200 marks each.

– Both these papers will be of matriculation or equivalent standard. Candidate will qualify Civil Services (Main) Examination based on the criterion of minimum qualifying marks of 33% in General studies paper – II.

– The total qualifying marks of General Studies Paper – I & the Paper – II of Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination as may be determined by the commission.

Mains Examination

The written examination will consist of the following papers:

Compulsory Qualifying Papers

– Paper – A Language 300 Marks

One of the Indian Languages to be selected by the candidate from the Languages included in the Eight Schedule of the Constitution. (Not compulsory for candidates hailing from Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalay, Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim)

– Paper – B English 300 Marks

25% marks in Indian Language & 25% marks in English as minimum qualifying standards in these compulsory qualifying papers.

Interview (Personality Test)

– After the declaration of civil services main examination, an interview is organized for successful candidates

– UPSC selects the candidates for interview twice the number of vacancies to be filled.

– Interview Guidance Programme conducted by Samkalp is the most acclaimed programme.

– In the 2016 UPSC Civil Services Results, students associated with Samkalp exhibited glorious performance. Out of a total of 1078 students selected by the UPSC, 648 students were from SAMKALP.
